Most of us have been there at some point. First is to accept that it is one sided. Then is to define the journey to get over it, which is different for different people. Mine was to make sure I do not ever bump into that person for a while – till I have moved on, I also had two close friends as back up who would be on SOS calls so that I can just speak about what I am feeling and get it out of my system. I think you should let yourself think about the person as much as you want to reach the point of saturation – but DO NOT HOPE that they will change their mind. You will never move on and that is a disservice to your own self. I am a big believer in counselling as well and a couple of sessions are totally worth it.
